About

I started my career in photography in 1988 when I began to see my interest in all things photographic as a way to make a living. I learnt my trade working as an assistant in Manchester and Leeds. There was a lot to learn! This was the era of film and the darkroom, the world of digital imagery and computer editing was over a decade away. An in depth knowledge of film types, processing, lighting techniques and rules of exposure where essential to produce a quality image. There was no quick fix in photoshop if you got it wrong! Much of this knowledge was made redundant with the advent of digital but the basic principles of photography still apply. I made the switch to digital around 1999 and once the new skill set had been learnt found the new workflow provided speed and creative possibilities that could not have been dreamt of when I started, though I do miss the darkroom from time to time.

I worked on my portfolio while employed as an assistant and gradually collected a set of images which started to attract interest from advertising agencies and direct clients. I set up in business for myself in 1992.

Since then I have worked on many diverse projects through agencies and direct to clients. I have produced images for the BBC, Sony, VW, Bentley, Morrison’s, CO-OP and many others.

Over the years my work has moved more towards people photography. I have a particular interest in music having played the drums since the age of 11. I have toured and recorded with several bands as a drummer and feel very comfortable in this environment. I have worked as a tour photographer and continue to work with music producers, agents and artists creating images for promotion, posters, CD sleeves etc.

I am currently supplying stock imagery for several publishing companies and picture libraries and shooting commissions in the UK and abroad. My work is syndicated internationally.
